Buenos Aires: A Day of Community Service

This August, students participating in fall Liberal Arts program in Buenos Aires, were invited to be part of an emotive celebration of the “día del niño”, with the community of the Community Center of Barrio Mitre. 

Traditionally, Argentina holds a day celebrating children each August, when they receive gifts from their families and celebrate together. This day is not only especial, but also very expected by kids form all ages: they really want to spend and amazing day of games and activities where they are the guests of honor.

'Sports and Society' Summer 2012 Newsletter

The six-week summer program examines the impact of sports on the culture, identity, and society of DR, which, per capita, has produced more professional baseball players than any other country.

Inauguration of Santiago Recycling Center


Niños con una Esperanza, partner organization of the CIEE Service-Learning program in the Dominican Republic, is starting the first community-based recycling center in Santiago. The project is being funded, in part, by a CIEE Ping Grant. Members of the Service-Learning program were on hand for, and acknowledged during, the center´s inauguration!

CIEE Scholarships to 18 U Wisconsin Students

Eighteen University of Wisconsin–Madison students have been awarded CIEE study abroad scholarships. Applied to upcoming summer and fall programs, these awards will cover a combined total of $30,500.

Fifteen of the awardees received CIEE’s Global Access Initiative (GAIN) Scholarship, two have received the Robert B. Bailey Scholarship and one received a John E. Bowman Travel Grant.

A Parent's Experience Abroad


After a visit to Santiago, where her daughter is studying with CIEE, writer Peggy Sturdivant reflected on both her time, and her daughter’s growth, abroad in a piece published in Washington’s Ballard News-Tribune.
